Gel stain worked so well on a table that girl #1 refinished recently that I was itching to use it on something else. So when I decided that my planters need a touch up of some kind, I wondered how the gel stain would do on metal. I cleaned my planters and then grabbed an old sock and got to work. See for yourself! My favorite project this week was re-purposing an old gold floor lamp. Here is what you need: an old lamp, Valspar Metallic oil-rubbed bronze, plastic, and maybe a new lamp shade.
Before I started, I wiped the lamp down. Once outside, I spread out plastic on the driveway and then sprayed two coats of Valspar Metallic spray paint, waiting about 20 minutes between coats. It was overcast outside, otherwise, I would have found a shady area. The DH said I should have used a fine grade sandpaper to rough it up first but the paint stuck just fine without doing that. Maybe next time!
While at Lowe’s, I found a new burlap shade for about $19.99 to give the lamp a modern update.
For about ten minutes work and $30, I have a new floor lamp and the best part is it was super easy!
